How to: Add examples to your portfolio
A strong portfolio helps you impress clients and win work. This is important for all roles, not just visual freelancers. It also helps musicians, marketers and developers to show what they can produce.
This guide shows you how to add a project to your Twine portfolio.
Step 1: Go to your Portfolio Projects page
Click your profile picture in the top right corner and select Portfolio Projects.
On the Portfolio Projects page, click New Project.
Step 2: Project details
From this point you will see several fields to complete:
Title - A name for your project, which will be visible to clients. For video work, this could be the title of the film. For a website design, it could be the brand name.
Project Media (optional) - Drop a file into the box or click browse to choose one from your computer. This is the lead file for your project and it shows at the top of the project page.
- You can upload an image, video or audio file.
- Files can be up to 10 GB.
- If you would rather link to work hosted elsewhere, you can leave this empty and create a text-only project (see Step 5).
Once your file has uploaded, you can use Replace file to swap it or Remove file to take it off.
Thumbnail - After you upload a file, Twine creates a thumbnail for you. This is how your project appears on your portfolio and in client searches.
To change the crop of the thumbnail:
- Click Adjust thumbnail.
- Drag the image to reposition it, or use the Zoom slider to zoom in and out.
- Check the preview on the right. It shows how your project will look on your portfolio and in search results.
- Click Save thumbnail.
If you change your mind, click Reset to automatic to go back to the original crop.
Description - Here you can explain the project. Some things you could cover: what the brief was, what you made and what the result was.
You can use Markdown to format your text and paste in links. Click Formatting guide under the box for a quick reference, and use the Preview tab to check how it looks before you publish.
If you want to show work hosted elsewhere, paste the link on its own line in this text box and it will turn into a player. This works with YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Vimeo, SoundCloud and Behance. This is a simple and effective way to showcase your work without uploading a file -
How to add embeds to a project
Project roles - Credit the role you performed in the making of this work. Twine adds the roles from your profile automatically. Remove any that did not apply to this project by clicking the x next to them. To add another role, click + Add role and start typing to search.
Step 3: Make your project live
Click Create project. Your project will be published straight away. If you uploaded a file, Twine will finish preparing the full-quality version, and clients will see it within a minute or two. You will see a Processing image badge until it is ready.
Editing or deleting a project
To make any changes to a project, visit Portfolio Projects and click Edit project on the relevant upload. You can update the title, description, file, thumbnail and roles at any time. Click Save changes when you are done.
- Replace file swaps your media for a new file. This restarts processing and creates a new thumbnail.
- Remove media (make text only) removes the file and keeps the project as text only.
- Delete project removes the project from your portfolio completely.
If your file is still processing, you can still edit the title, description and roles.
Changing the order of your projects
On your portfolio page, click the three dots next to a project to change the order in which it is displayed
