# What are public questions?

Clients don’t always add all the necessary details to their project description. Sometimes they just don’t know what information to include. To help you out you can ask the client a public question about their project before you contact them.

The client will then post a public answer. You will be notified by email when they respond. Once you have the information you need you can contact the client if you want to work together.

You should use public questions in these scenarios:

* When you’re interested in a project but would like to ask a question about it before you go any further.

* When the client has not included enough information in their job description and you need to know more.

**Do:**

✔ Ask questions related to the specific project
✔ Know that questions are anonymous: this is not a way to contact the client

**Don't:**

✘ Use asking a question as an opportunity for self-promotion
✘ Spam

* * *

**Example public questions:**

* What timescales are you working to? By what date do you want the project delivered?

* Is this a stand-alone project, or part of a larger project?

* In what time zone are you located? Would it be preferable to hire a freelancer in a similar timezone?

* Do you have a preference for the language of your freelancer?

_For creative projects:_

* Can you share a visual / audio / etc reference for your desired style?

_For animation/video:_

* How long are you expecting the animation/video to be?

_For motion graphics/animation:_

* Will you provide a voiceover?

_For any music projects:_

* What genre are you looking for?

* Is there software/equipment that you prefer the freelancer to complete the project with?

* Is the equipment included in the budget?

_For acting projects:_

* Do actors need to be of a specific age or background?

_For location-specific projects:_

* Can this project be delivered remotely, or do you need a freelancer on-site?
