# Step 1: Understanding your requirement

The first step to finding a freelancer (and ultimately having your job delivered) is developing an understanding of what it is that you need, and why you need it.  
  

*   **What do you want to achieve?** 
    

*   **What kind of specialism do you need?**
    

*   **Is this a one-off job, or part of a larger project?**
    

*   **Do you have approval to hire for this job, and a budget in mind?**
    

*   **Do you have reference images / videos / links demonstrating styles you like?**
    

Hiring a freelancer can be daunting, especially if you don’t have much experience in this area, or if you’re using a new platform.

Understanding what you know (and don’t know) about your job is really important, and the more information you can give in your job brief, the better. A fully fleshed out job brief will attract freelancers of a high-quality, and with the specific skills needed to for your deliverable.

You’re here to hire a talented individual with a particular set of skills that you yourself don’t possess, and therefore we can assume that you may need a bit of help understanding what is needed.

Will your animation need a voiceover? Do you need a Sound Engineer or a Sound Designer? Maybe, you would like to replicate something you’ve seen, but don’t know how to articulate what you want.
